Police: Shelton Lawyer Sexually Assaulted Boy Over Four-Year Period

A Shelton lawyer arrested Tuesday is accused of sexually assaulting a boy for nearly four years, according to court documents.

The lawyer, 49-year-old Peter Kruzynski, is also accused of interfering with police and harassment because police said he contacted the alleged victim in the case after detectives told him not to.

But more details of the allegations are unknown because a judge ordered the arrest warrants charging Kruzynski sealed from public view.

Kruzynski declined to comment on the charges after an appearance at Superior Court in Derby Wednesday, as did his attorney, Eugene Riccio.

We’re not going to discuss anything at this point,” Riccio said.

A judge ordered Kruzynski to have no contact with the alleged victim in the case and to stay away from the boy’s family as well.

Kruzynski was arrested Tuesday (Aug. 30) on charges of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, interfering with police, second-degree harassment, and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

He was released after posting bonds totaling $77,500.

The arrest stems from a complaint taken from a juvenile victim who stated he was sexually assaulted by Kruzynski when he was 12 years old,” Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement announcing Kruzynski’s arrest.

The juvenile victim stated that Kruzynski took nude photographs of him then coerced him to continue having sex with him for years or he would post the photos on the internet,” Bango said. The juvenile victim also stated Kruzynski used his status as an attorney to coerce the victim to continue having sex.”

Further details of the allegations were unavailable because a judge sealed the arrest warrant at the request of Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Paul Gaetano, the top prosecutor at the Derby courthouse.

The basis of the state’s request is to protect the identity of a sexual assault victim,” Gaetano wrote in a motion to seal the documents.

Judge Peter Brown granted Gaetano’s motion and continued the matter to Sept. 19, at which point it will likely be transferred to Superior Court in Milford, which handles more serious cases.

Riccio said in court that he planned to challenge the court’s jurisdiction in the sexual assault case, but didn’t elaborate.

I’m sure that’s something we’ll be dealing with in Milford,” Riccio said.

According to court documents, the sexual assault allegations date from Jan. 1, 2009 to Sept. 30, 2013.

The interfering with police and harassment charges date back to a little more than two weeks ago — Aug. 15.

Kruzynski has an address on Papere Ridge, and his law office is based at 476 Howe Ave.

He has been a lawyer in Connecticut since 1994, according to the Judicial Branch website, and has no public record of discipline.
