Prison Time For Man Accused In Dozens of Valley Thefts

Robert Magi, 20, will spend the next 46 months in prison for a string of burglaries in the Valley last year.

Magi, who has listed his address in both Fairfield and Seymour, was sentenced at Superior Court in Derby on June 6.

He had been charged with more than 80 counts of larceny, burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in the towns of Oxford and Seymour.

The list of items Magi stole, according to police, is as extensive as it is varied.

It includes a mini-van, a pick-up truck, valuables from inside cars, bicycles, credit cards, iPods, GPS devices and cameras.

Magi told police he needed the money for drugs, according to one arrest warrant in his file.

Magi was raised in a neglectful home environment, according to details in a pre-sentence investigation report completed by the probation department.

He was exposed to drugs and alcohol at a young age — using marijuana for the first time at 10 years old, according to the report.

However, in past sentences, Magi was given the opportunity to receive substance abuse treatment, but did not take his opportunity seriously and instead chose criminal behavior,” the report states.

There were at least 36 identified victims of the thefts, according to court documents.

Magi is serving his sentence at the Manson Youth Institute in Cheshire. His total sentence was for 10 years, suspended after he serves 46 months in prison, with three years of probation after his release.
