Sex Offender Charged With Exposing Himself To Jogger

Shelton police arrested a registered sex offender Saturday after obtaining an arrest warrant charging him with exposing himself to a jogger in May.

Richard Hammond, 52, of Stratford, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and public indecency. He is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby Oct. 19.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said the charges stem from a complaint cops received May 10.

A jogger approached a Patrol Officer and stated that he was jogging in the Shelton Trails in the area of Shelton Avenue when he saw a man on the trail with no pants on and his genitals exposed,” Bango’s statement said. The jogger stated the man gestured at him then ran off into the woods.”

Cops responded and found Hammond in the trails, Bango’s statement said, and after Detectives investigated the incident it was determined he was the man the jogger saw with no pants.”

Hammond is a registered sex offender, having been convicted in January 1995 of second-degree sexual assault.
