Seymour High Hosts Distracted Driving Course

During the week of April 22 through April 26 Seymour High School will be educating teens on the responsibilities of safe driving!

The week starts on Monday with AT&T’s “It Can Wait!” Teen Distracted Driving Program.

Teens will also hear from guest speakers such as: well-known Attorney John Hammond, State Rep. Theresa Conroy, State Sen. Kevin Kelly and First Selectman Kurt Miller, who will re-enforce that texting and distracted driving can have tragic consequences.

Next, teens will have the opportunity during the entire week to experience the Distractology 101” Mobile Classroom Unit which will be on campus at Seymour High School.

This is a 36-foot enclosed classroom trailer that will allow teens who have their driver’s license or driver permit to take a crash course on distracted driving.

This free Distractology 101” Program is brought to Seymour High School through funding from the Arbella Insurance Group Charitable Foundation and Bearingstar Insurance Company. The Valley Community Foundation is also a sponsor of the week-long event.

Professional driving instructors will come to Connecticut to instruct our teen drivers in a hands-on setting with state of the art driving simulators putting teens through a variety of driving situations they may encounter out on the road. The program runs in 45 minute intervals and is by appointment only.

We urge parents to make their teen driver aware of this innovated program coming to Seymour High School. Teens can see Director of Security Rich Kearns or Seymour Police Resource Officer Mike Jasmin to sign-up for their appointment.

Students who participate in the program will be receiving a safe driving certificate, give-a-ways and a free gas card.

Sign-ups are first come, first serve, as space is limited.

The program will run from Monday through Friday 08 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Parents can go to www.distractu.com for information about Distractology 101”.

If parents need additional information they can also contact: Rich Kearns, Director of Security Seymour Public Schools at: 203 – 888-2561 Ext. 1003.
