Seymour Man Charged In Hit-And-Run

A 23-year-old Seymour man was arrested early Wednesday after police said he hit a pedestrian outside a downtown bar and fled the scene.

The man was found in Ansonia minutes later.

The victim in the hit-and-run suffered a broken leg and was scheduled to undergo surgery Wednesday afternoon, his sister told the Valley Indy.

Robert Miller, of Davis Road, faces charges of first-degree assault, reckless driving, and evading responsibility in the case.

He was held on $5,000 bond to be arraigned Wednesday (April 10) at Superior Court in Derby.

Police were first dispatched to the area of the Trestle Tavern at 26 Main St. about midnight on a report of a hit-and-run.

Seymour police responding to the scene alerted Ansonia police with a description of the car Miller was driving, a Volkswagen Jetta.

Ansonia Police Lt. Andrew Cota said Wednesday that Miller was stopped by Ansonia police on Franklin Street minutes later without incident.

Seymour police then took Miller into custody and towed his car, Cota said.

Injured in the hit-and-run was Kyle Domizio, 26, an Ansonia resident.

Domizio’s sister, Kaycee, said Wednesday morning that she wasn’t at the bar, but that her brother told her that trouble started when one of Miller’s friends tried to push over Domizio’s motorcycle outside the bar.

One of Domizio’s friends noticed and alerted him, and when he went outside to see what was going on, Kaycee Domizio said, Miller and two friends got into the Jetta.

Domizio went over to talk to them, she said, but they ended up actually running him over” at low speed.

She said her brother suffered some road rash and a broken leg.

His bone broke, his shin, and it went right through his skin,” Kaycee Domizio said.

Corrective surgery on Domizio’s leg would take place Wednesday afternoon, she said. They have to put a rod in it and everything.”
