Shelton Cops Charge Ansonia Resident With Cruelty To Animals

Shelton police charged an Ansonia woman with cruelty to animals after they said investigators found a dead puppy at a residence on Soundview Avenue and four other animals living in unsanitary conditions without adequate food, water, or heat.”

Police in a prepared statement said 31-year-old Charlotte D’Amico used to live at the residence and was responsible for the animals’ care.

Cops began the investigation in January, the statement said, after a complaint was made to Shelton Animal Control. At the time, the home was unoccupied.

Two dogs and two cats were found living at the home, police said.

The dogs and one of the cats were adopted immediately after being signed over to the custody of the city’s animal shelter in January, police said.

The second cat was adopted after recovering from several surgeries.

Police obtained a warrant charging D’Amico with five counts of cruelty to animals.

They arrested D’Amico on the warrant Friday (Aug. 28).

D’Amico posted a $2,500 bond in the case and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby Sept. 11.
