Update: Angelica Nimaltseva, the Middletown teen injured in Sunday’s car crash in Shelton, is listed in “fair” condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Original story follows:

An 18-year-old Middletown woman was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after a serious crash on Shelton Avenue near Pine Street Sunday.

The accident happened at 10 a.m. when a vehicle being driven by Angelica Nimaltseva crashed into a tree. Police did not comment on the extent of her injuries.

The car was crumpled. It took about 15 minutes to free Nimaltseva from the wreckage, according to emergency radio reports.

The road was closed for several hours Sunday as police investigated.

“At this point, no enforcement action has been taken by police,” according to a prepared statement by Lt. Robert Kozlowsky.

Anyone with information on the crash should call the police department at 203 924-1544, ext. 435.

A message seeking information on Nimaltseva’s condition was left with Yale-New Haven Hospital.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Angelica. I saw you and the car moments after the crash but not the crash itself. I can’t forget you. It is a miracle you survived. Keep fighting for your life. I’ll keep praying for you.
