Shelton Fire Department Calls For Service

Shelton Fire Marshal James Tortora submitted the following summary of the Shelton Volunteer Fire Department’s calls from last week.

On 01/10/17 at 6:45 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to assist EMS at #29 Buddington Road. Two units responded.

On 01/10/17 at 7:59 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to an odor of natural gas in a residence at #271 Sunwood Drive. No odor or leak was found by firefighters or gas company responders. One ladder truck responded.

On 01/10/17 at 8:26 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel at #780 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. The alarm was activated during cleaning operations in the hotels’ salon. One engine, one ladder truck and one rescue truck responded.

On 01/10/17 at 11:47 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 12 and 11. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 01/12/17 at 5:53 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded a carbon monoxide detector sounding at #55 Sunset drive. One engine responded.

On 01/12/17 at 8:36 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 12 and 11. One engine responded.

On 01/12/17 at 6:42 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 12 and 11. Two engines, one rescue truck and one utility truck responded.

On 01/13/17 at 00:09 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of wires down in the area of #792 Booth Hill Road. One engine responded.

On 01/13/17 at 9:08 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #42 Wells Avenue to assist police. Fire units were cancelled by police shortly thereafter.

On 01/13/17 at 4:36 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded a #51 Sunset Drive for water coming from a vacant house. One rescue truck and one utility truck responded.

On 01/14/17 at 5:01 am the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4, White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a structure fire at #33 Hull Street. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire on the fourth floor of a four story building. An occupant of the building was found on the ground after jumping from a window to escape the fire. The fire was extinguished and brought under control with 45 minutes of fire units arrival. An investigation was conducted by the Shelton Fire Marshal’s Office, State Fire marshal’s Office and the Shelton Police. The origin of the fire was a room on the fourth floor in a machine shop where firefighters contained the fire to. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. 

The building was closed for the day due to the fire. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during fire operations. The Derby Fire Department also responded to the fire scene. Monroe, Nichols and the Ansonia Fire Departments covered various areas at fire stations in the city during the fire. Six engines, four ladder trucks and two rescue trucks responded to the scene. Echo Hose Ambulance Corps and VEMS also responded and stood by at the scene during firefighting operations.

On 01/14/17 at 5:37 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a commercial fire alarm sounding at the Inline Plastic Company #42 canal Street. There was no fire. One engine responded.

On 01/14/17 at 4:47 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound between exits 12 and 11. One engine and one rescue truck responded.

On 01/14/17 at 5:29 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on federal Road. Two engines responded.

On 01/14/17 at 5:33 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on east Village Road in the area of #16. One utility truck responded.

On 01/14/17 at 5:40 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Wabuda Place near East Village Road. Firefighters had to extricate an occupant of a vehicle that had gone off the road and rolled over down an embankment. One engine, one rescue truck and one utility truck responded.

On 01/14/17 at 6:23 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a motor vehicle accident on Soundview Avenue at Bronson Drive. Two engines and one rescue truck responded.

On 01/15/17 at 8:57 am the Huntington Co. #3, White Hills Co. #5 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a report of a house fire at #26 Captains Watch. Upon arrival firefighters found no fire but smoke from food cooking. One engine responded.
