Shelton High School Student Dies In Crash

A 17-year-old Shelton High School student died after a rollover crash on Bridgeport Avenue Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Edmund Conklin. He was a senior at the school and played on the basketball team.

According to a prepared statement from the Shelton Police Department, emergency responders were sent to a one-car rollover at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday on Bridgeport Avenue.

Conklin was found outside his vehicle, on the road.

He died at a hospital, police said.

The police department’s accident reconstruction team is trying to figure out what happened.

The Shelton High School crisis team” has been activated, according to police.

Chris Clouet, the Shelton Public Schools superintendent, published a note on the district’s website Sunday:

Sadly, I must communicate with all of you that a young man, a senior at Shelton High School, died today as a result of a car accident. More details will be forthcoming. First and foremost, this is a family tragedy; secondly, a shock to the entire school community. For Shelton High School students, support will be available at the high school. Please hold this young man in your thoughts and prayers.”

Conklin’s fellow students expressed remorse for their classmate’s death on Twitter.

Police described the crash location as between Crown Point Plaza and Long Hill Cross Road.
