A 58-year-old Shelton man was charged with illegally possessing an assault weapon Thursday.
Michael Soda was also charged with two counts of disorderly conduct.
According to a prepared statement from police, officers responded to a report of domestic dispute on Jan.11.
Because of threats allegedly made in connection to the domestic dispute, police seized weapons from Soda’s house on Shelton Road.
The threats involved the use of a firearm, police said.
Police said they recovered a Norinco AK-47 rifle, made in China, which had “several features” that made it a banned weapon in Connecticut.
Those features included, according to police:
- A pistol grip
- The ability to accept detachable ammunition magazines
- A threaded barrel
- The ability to have a bayonet attached
Soda surrendered to police Thursday after being told there was a warrant for his arrest.
He was released after positing a $5,000 bond and he is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby today (Friday, Jan. 25).
