Shelton Man Charged After Domestic Violence Incident, Standoff

A 39-year-old Shelton man is accused of pulling a gun on a woman and beating her during a domestic violence incident Wednesday in Shelton.

Jason Karczmarczyk is charged with criminal possession of a firearm, third-degree assault, assaulting a police officer, disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call.

He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Derby Thursday (Nov. 20).

Police said in a prepared statement that officers were sent to a residence on Long Hill Avenue about 7:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call.

The victim told police that she got into an argument with Karczmarczyk, her boyfriend, and that he displayed” a gun.

She tried to call police, but Karczmarczyk allegedly knocked the phone out of her hand, pushed her to the ground, and kicked her several times in the head.

The victim was screaming and eventually a neighbor knocked on the door, which caused Jayson to stop assaulting the victim,” according to a statement from Lt. Robert Kozlowsky. The victim was then able to leave the residence.”

But Karczmarczyk wouldn’t come out to talk to police, triggered an approximate 1‑hour standoff.

When he came out, Karczmarczyk allegedly resisted arrest, resulting in a hand injury to a Shelton officer who required a trip to the emergency room.

The victim received medical attention for her injuries, police said.
