Shelton Man Charged In Vehicle Break-Ins

Shelton police served five arrest warrants Wednesday on a Cardinal Drive man they say broke into vehicles and stole valuables — including a gun — from them.

Kyle Eckweiler, 21, has been jailed since last month after being arrested by police Sept. 23 on charges of third-degree burglary and fourth-degree larceny.

He was scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby in the Sept. 23 case Wednesday when Shelton cops served him with new arrest warrants.

Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said Eckweiler was arrested Sept. 23 after a detective saw Eckweiler exit a vehicle, and when he returned to the vehicle the detective went to speak with him and saw golf clubs in plain view that were recently reported stolen.”

After arresting Eckweiler last month, cops searched his vehicle and found numerous credit cards with different names, a couple of GPS units, three purses, and other items,” Kozlowsky said.

Detectives then followed up on the seized items and were able to determine that the items were stolen from vehicles,” Kozlowsky said.

The break-ins were concentrated in the Huntington area of Shelton, he said.

Eckweiler now faces new charges of:

  • Theft of a firearm
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Four counts of third-degree burglary
  • Three counts of sixth-degree larceny
  • Fourth-degree larceny
  • Violation of probation

Eckweiler was arraigned on the new charges Wednesday (Oct. 22) at Superior Court in Derby, where Judge Peter Brown continued the cases to Nov. 26.

Eckweiler remains held on bonds totaling more than $100,000.
