Shelton Man Faces Drug, Gun Charges

Shelton police arrested a local man on gun and drug charges after they said undercover officers saw him conducting a drug deal downtown.

About 2:30 p.m., undercover cops saw two men conduct a hand-to-hand drug transaction” in the commuter parking lot at Canal and Cornell Street, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said in a prepared statement.

Officers located several individually wrapped bags of marijuana, several loose pills and a semi-automatic handgun,” Bango said.

Police charged 21-year-old Ricardo Llera, of Shelton, with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, sale of a controlled substance, illegal possession of a controlled substance, and failure to keep drugs in their original container.

Llera was held on a $250,000 bond and was due to be arraigned Thursday at Superior Court in Derby.

The driver of the vehicle that Llera was in, 19-year-old Erminia Leite, also of Shelton, was charged with conspiracy to commit sale of a controlled substance and released on a promise to appear Feb. 10 at Superior Court in Derby.

A 21-year-old from Shelton was issued an infraction ticket for possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and released at the scene.
