Shelton Man Sentenced In Connection With Fatal Overdose

A Shelton man who sold heroin to a Bridgeport woman who died from an overdose has been sentenced to nearly four years in federal prison, federal prosecutors announced.

Jorge Capone” Morales, 30, had pleaded guilty July 13 to one count of possession with intent to distribute heroin.

U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden sentenced Morales to 46 months in prison in federal court in Bridgeport Wednesday.

In a prepared statement, U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly said the charge related to the April 15, 2016 overdose of a 21-year-old woman found unresponsive at her Bridgeport home who subsequently died.

Daly said the victim’s cell phone revealed several calls and text messages between the woman and Morales in the days leading up to the overdose.

In addition, law enforcement conducted a controlled purchase” of heroin from Morales the same day — in baggies marked with the same brand stamp as heroin found at the scene of the woman’s overdose.

Morales was arrested April 20 and has been behind bars since.

After finishing his prison term, he will be on federal probation for three years, the first six months of which will be under house arrest, Daly said.
