Shelton Official To Lead United Way Campaign

Valley United Way announces the appointment of Jimmy Tickey as the 2016 – 2017 Annual Community Campaign Chair.

Jimmy and his team of selected Campaign Cabinet Members, comprised of volunteers from our community in the professional and residential arenas, will lead the organization to its goal of raising $1 million in support of 23 health and human services organizations serving our Valley community.

Jimmy Tickey grew up in Shelton, attended Shelton Public Schools, and continues to call Shelton home. He graduated from Fordham University in New York City with a degree in Business Administration and Economics.

Jimmy has a strong sense of service to his community and has been involved with the Valley United Way since he was in Valley United Way’s Youth Leadership Program in high school. He is proud to lead the Valley United Way Community Campaign this year and is looking forward to working with community leaders, businesses and residents to collectively fight for a stronger community. Jimmy hopes to strengthen families across the Valley, encourage youth to succeed and assist people in crisis.

We are very excited to have Jimmy leading the campaign this year,” said Sara Aylward, Valley United Way Director of Resource Development. Jimmy and I served together as Valley United Way Youth Leaders back in high school and it is great that we can work together again to support an organization that gave us our start in nonprofit. Jimmy’s passion for the United Way mission and his dedication to our community are both tremendous assets for Valley United Way.”

Aside from his active role with Valley United Way, Jimmy is also on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley and is a Corporator for Griffin Hospital. Jimmy serves as Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro’s Campaign Manager and operates his own consulting business – JWN – advising small businesses, professional groups, non-profit organizations and campaigns.

In 2013, Jimmy was elected to the City of Shelton’s Planning & Zoning Commission. Jimmy was previously elected to the City of Shelton’s Board of Apportionment and Taxation, where he worked to decrease the tax-rate while maintaining key city services. Jimmy was recently named Connecticut’s Top 40 under 40.
