Shelton Tavern Celebrates Grand Opening

The new owners of a downtown Shelton bar and restaurant celebrated a grand opening Friday (July 25) with customers and city officials.

Formerly Danny O’s Downtown,” the business closed earlier this year after being bought by three friends who retitled it Bricks and Barley Tavern” and completed a floor-to-ceiling renovation.

Traffic has been steady since the business reopened its doors last month, two of the new owners, Tim Connors and Chris Jones — their third partner, Al Ciraldo, was out of town Friday — said before a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the bar Friday afternoon.

We tried to take it in all different directions, tried to cover all bases when we bought this place together,” Connors said. We weren’t just going for a bar, we were going for a family-oriented place you can bring the family down, bring the kids down.”

Eric McPherson, an Alderman whose Second Ward covers downtown Shelton, said after a tour of the business that the renovation succeeded in that respect.

You had a successful business that was here and I’m very confident that they’re going to do just as well,” McPherson said, noting that residential development along nearby Howe Avenue continues apace, providing downtown merchants with new customers. You’ll be getting more people to come down now.”

We’re excited for the growth of downtown,” Jones said Friday.

General Manager Willie Poole said the business is designed to give people in Shelton a reason to stay there when they go out, from children’s movie nights to an open-air roof deck to hosting XBox and Playstation gamers.

I look forward to seeing you all down here and spending some money,” he joked to those gathered Friday.

Bricks and Barley Tavern is located at 441 Howe Ave., between Bridge and Center streets.
