State Cops Announce Checkpoints, Patrols Targeting Drunken Drivers

The accident reduction effort” is part of the state police’s annual Operation SANTA,” which stands for Stop Another Needless Tragic Accident.”

State police said that DUI enforcement will increase dramatically” during the holidays with a number of checkpoints and roving patrols.

A list of the checkpoints and patrols statewide is posted below.

In this area, state cops from Troop I in Bethany will be conducting special roving patrols” in the area of Exit 12 on Route 8 on Jan. 2 and Jan. 4.

In addition to drunk drivers, speeders, and those not wearing their seatbelts, troopers will be stepping up enforcement against drivers using their cell phones while behind the wheel, state police said.

Troopers are asking all motorists to obey the laws and help the Connecticut State Police keep all roads and highways safe,” spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said in a prepared statement.
