State Planning Route 8 Work In Shelton

The state Department of Transportation announced Monday that it plans to mill and pave Route 8 north from Exit 8 to Exit 13 next spring.

The purpose of this program is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatments to extend the service life of the existing pavement,” the DOT said in a press release Monday (Aug. 25).

A section of Route 8 in Trumbull, Stratford and Shelton has been identified as a candidate for this program,” the DOT said. The Department is developing plans to mill and overlay the bituminous pavement on Route 8 from approximately 0.3 miles before exit 8 in Trumbull, to approximately 0.3 miles after exit 13 in the Shelton.”

William Britnell, the DOTs principal engineer of highway design, said Wednesday (Aug. 27) the project will repave only Route 8 north.

Design work for the project will be completed in October, with construction anticipated for spring 2015.

This project will be undertaken with 100 percent state funds,” the DOT said in its press release.

It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken,” the DOT said. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.”

The DOT said anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Britnell at 860 – 594-3274, or by e‑mail at [email protected].
