Stolen Gun Leads To Multiple Charges

Ansonia police Monday arrested an 18-year-old city man and charged him with four crimes connected to a stolen 9 mm handgun.

Jacob Freeman is charged with first-degree robbery, criminal use of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a permit, and second-degree larceny.

According to a prepared statement from police, the charges are connected to an April 9 robbery on Locke Street during which a gun was stolen.

The gun was stolen by a juvenile, who then allegedly sold it to Freeman. However, Freeman robbed the juvenile immediately after purchasing the gun, according to police.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Freeman, along with a warrant to search his Lester Street residence.

Police, with a special response team, raided a property on Lester Street April 11, but Freeman was not home. Police caught up with him Monday, when he was spotted on a porch on Lester Street.

Freeman was scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court in Derby April 15.
