Stratford Man Charged With Seymour Movie Theater Robbery

Photo:Ethan FrySeymour police have charged a 40-year-old Stratford man with committing a robbery at the Entertainment Cinemas at Tri-Town Plaza in January and say more arrests are expected.

In a prepared statement Seymour Police Deputy Chief Paul Satkowski said detectives on Tuesday (April 22) served an arrest warrant on Peter Patria, of Meeting House Road, charging him with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, and fifth-degree larceny.

Satkowski’s statement said Patria entered the theater the afternoon of Jan. 27, approached a male employee working at the concession stand, displayed a knife, and demanded cash.

The male employee and Patria became involved in a physical altercation wherein the male employee received several laceration type injuries during the physical altercation,” Satkowski said in the statement. Patria was able to grab an undetermined amount of cash from the cash register before exiting the building and leaving the area in a vehicle in an unknown direction of travel.”

Several days after the incident, Satkowski said detectives received information” that Patria was responsible for the heist.

Through investigation detectives were able to corroborate the information and linked Patria to the robbery,” after which detectives obtained a warrant, Satkowski said.

They had been looking without success for Patria since, Satkowski said, but New Haven cops located him Tuesday while conducting an investigation. They took Patria into custody and turned him over to Seymour police.

Patria was held on $150,000 bond and arraigned Wednesday at Superior Court in Derby, where a judge lowered the bond to $49,000 and continued the case to May 14.

Patria was being held at Bridgeport Correctional Center as of Thursday, according to Correction Department records.

Satkowski said Patria won’t be the only one charged in connection to the case.

Detectives have secured an arrest warrant for an accomplice to Patria and additional arrests are expected for this incident,” Satkowski’s statement said.
