The Annual Housy River Duck Race Is Saturday, June 25

The City of Derby is hosting its Annual Derby Day this Saturday (June 25), and this year some lucky duck will win $1,000 at St. Mary – St. Michael’s School’s Eighth Annual Housy River Duck Race.

The race, which starts with thousands of rubber ducks being dropped into the Housatonic River, is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Derby-Shelton bridge.

The public can tickets in order to sponsor a rubber duck, and then win prizes if your duck does well in the race.

The ducks are numbered, and each duck’s number corresponds with the tickets sold before and during the race.

The proceeds benefit the school and several area nonprofit agencies.

The best thing about our annual Housy Duck Race is that it not only benefits our school, but it is a community event.” said St. Mary-St. Michael School Principal Linda Coppola. Since it is part of the Derby Day celebration, it brings families together to celebrate what our little city is all about.

Coppola said proceeds from the Housy Duck Race helps to strengthen the academic programs of the school’s math, science, technology program.

In addition to the $1,000 grand prize for the duck race winner, there are 64 additional prizes available, including:

  • A 50-inch LED HD TV
