The Great Give Raised More Than $1.2 Million

Nonprofit groups in the Valley and greater New Haven received more than $1.2 million during last week’s Great Give,” a 36-hour online fundraiser.

The fifth annual event benefited about 400 groups, including about 40 in the Naugatuck Valley.

The Great Give was presented by Give Local America, the Valley Community Foundation and the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.

Locally, nearly 1,000 people gifted” about $225,000, according to a press release from the Valley Community Foundation.

If you’re one of the people who donated, you’re invited to an ice cream social to celebrate The Great Give scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday (May 14) at the St. Mary’s fellowship hall at 212 Elizabeth St. in Derby.

Employees from The Valley Community Foundation are scheduled to announce the local grand prize” winners at Thursday’s ice cream social.

Officials from the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven said a total of $1,291,096 was raised during The Great Give in the area. That money will be distributed to nonprofits in more than 20 towns. About 7,000 people made donations in 36 hours.

Our community’s response to The Great Give 2015 is deeply gratifying,” said William W. Ginsberg, president and CEO of the greater New Haven foundation. It is a tribute to the strength of our local nonprofit sector and the generosity of our community.”

How’d The Locals Do?

The lower Valley was more than represented during the Great Give.

Center Stage Theatre received 322 gifts,” totaling $35,673.

Area Congregations Together (Spooner House) raised $17,490 through 43 donations.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley raised $12,610 through 30 donations.

Bhcare raised $12,001 from 42 donations.

TEAM raised $10,900 from 53 donations.

Griffin Hospital raised $10,450 from nine donations.

Ansonia Public Schools raised $7,050 from 27 donations.

The Shelton High School Robotics Team raised $5,426 from 55 donations.

The Housatonic Council, Boy Scouts of America raised $5,410 from 41 donations.

The Lower Naugatuck Valley Parent Child Resource Center raised $3,835 donations from 27 donations.

Seymour Pink raised $3,575 from 68 donations.

The Salvation Army (Greater Valley Corps) raised $2,716 from seven donations.

The Shelton Historical Society raised $2,710 from 17 donations.

The Shelton Economic Development Corp. raised $2,275 from three donations.

The Shelton Education Fund raised $1,818 from 35 donations.

The Shelton Land Conservation Trust raised $1,750 from 15 donations.

The Valley Shakespeare Festival raised $1,716 from 21 donations.

The Valley YMCA raised $1,155 from four donations.

Treasured Time raised $800 from 12 donations.

The Oxford Historical Society raised $746 from 12 donations.

The Derby Public Library raised $560 from 11 donations.

The Valley Arts Council raised $330 from seven donations.

The Mary A. Schmecker Turtle Fund raised $275 from five donations.

The Shelton Exchange Club Foundation raised $125 from two donations.

Seymour-Oxford Nursery & Child Care Association raised $125 from three donations.

Wesley Heights received $75 from two donations.

Valley Emergency Medical Services raised $75 from three donations.
