It’s time for the 15th annual Derby Day festival in downtown Derby this weekend! 

Details on Derby Day events, and other weekend activities, can be found below.

FRIDAY, JUNE 15

Smell the Night Hike
A multi-sensory walk with Ansonia Nature Center rangers Wendy and Martin, meant to awaken your senses to the pleasures found in the trails at twilight.
Cost: Free
Location: Ansonia Nature Center, 10 Deerfield Road, Ansonia
Time: 7 p.m.

SATURDAY, JUNE 16

15th Annual DERBY DAY!
The festival will include live music and entertainment, talented crafters, great food, the Housy River Duck Race down the river, the Derby Dash Road Race, games and more.
Cost: Free
Location: Elizabeth Street, Derby
Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4th Annual Derby Dash 5K & Fun Run
Race starts at 8 a.m. in the municipal parking lot behind Main Street in front of the Derby Feed Store. The race will proceed to the Derby Greenway, loop around the Derby Hall of Fame near BJ’s and return to the starting point.
The Family Fun Run will start at 9 a.m.

4th Annual Housy Duck Race
Come watch hundreds of yellow duckies get dumped into the Housatonic River during the Derby Day festivities.
Cost: $5 per ticket
Location: Derby/Shelton Bridge
Time: 1 p.m.

Wild Food Foray
Hike the wilds” of the Ansonia Nature Center with Ali to learn where the foraging spots are located. You’ll learn to recognize the edibles in your own backyard too.
Cost: Free
Location: Ansonia Nature Center, 10 Deerfield Road, Ansonia
Time: 2 p.m.

Paper Shredding Event
The St. Joseph Alumni Association is hosting a paper shredding event to benefit St. Joseph School.
Cost: $10 – 25 per box or bag.
Location: St. Joseph parish parking lot on Coram Avenue in Shelton.
Time: 9 a.m.

Father’s Day Car Wash
Sponsored by the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Ansonia Assembly #8 Hotchkiss Hose Co.
Cost: $5 donation
Location: Hotchkiss Hose Co., David Humphreys Road
Time: 9 a.m. to noon

Block Dance
Country music singer Larry Ayce will perform as part of the Seymour Summer Concert Series
Parking available. Bring a chair.
Location: First and Bank streets, downtown Seymour.
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.

Learn To Speak Dog
Peg Demaine, a certified dog trainer and owner of Training for the Polite Pooch” leads the workshop and teaches pet parents how to correctly interpret their dog’s body language.
Location: Shelton Dog Park, corner of Nells Rock Road and Shelton Avenue.
Time: 9:30 a.m. to noon

Friends of the Shelton Dog Park Work Party
If you would like to get involved and help us to make the park a better place for humans and their dogs, please join us. There are many ways to help, including: poop patrol, sharp object removal, mulching/weeding, setting up and/or staffing the information table, and more!

Tag Sale
The Seymour Animal Shelter will hold a multi-family tag sale to benefit the cats and dogs of the shelter.

SUNDAY JUNE 17

Vintage Car Show
Spend Father’s Day with Dad strolling down memory lane while you peek under the hoods of a variety of cars of his youth and yours at the Shelton Historical Society’s Vintage Vehicles Antique & Classic Car Show.
Location: Shelton History Center, 70 Ripton Rd.
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
