Ticket Issued After Derby Driver Falls Asleep At The Wheel

A driver was issued a ticket after falling asleep at the wheel and crashing into a parked car on Elizabeth Street early Saturday.

According to information from Derby police, a 19-year-old city man was driving north on Elizabeth Street at 3:36 a.m. near Thompson Place when he fell asleep, crossed the double yellow line, ran over a parking meter and smashed into a parked car.

There was no one in the parked car. Both cars sustained substantial damage. There was no word on injuries.

The teen received a ticket for failing to stay in the proper lane.
