Ansonia Girl Struck By Car, Dies

Update:A 6‑year-old Ansonia girl was killed after being struck by a vehicle on Ford Street Thursday.

Though the incident is still under investigation, police believe the girl, who was visiting a friend’s house, was playing in a small plastic wagon that rolled into the street and was struck by a vehicle.

The girl’s name was not released. The driver of the vehicle that struck her is 54 years old and lives in Ansonia. His name was not released.

Ansonia police received several 911 calls at about 4:45 p.m. reporting that a child had been struck by a vehicle on Ford Street near Hughes Circle.

Police and medical personnel arrived to find the girl being helped by neighbors. 

She was taken to Griffin Hospital in Derby, where she was later pronounced dead.

No charges have been filed by police.

A child was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries Thursday after being hit by a vehicle in Ansonia, according to police.

About 4:50 p.m. paramedics were sent to the intersection of Ford Street and Hughes Circle on a report of a 6‑year-old girl struck by a vehicle, according to emergency radio transmissions.

Police and firefighters also responded.

Detectives were sent to the scene as well.

Police said on Facebook that the child sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Ansonia Police are investigating a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Ford Street at Hughes Circle. Young child transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Ford Street was closed to traffic between its two intersections with Condon Drive about 6 p.m.
