Genevieve E. “Jean” Koval

Genevieve E. “Jean” Koval, 97, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday morning, February 3, 2012, at Gardner Heights in Shelton. She was the wife of the late Andrew Koval.
Mrs. Koval was born in Ansonia on July 5, 1914, daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Moskal Sroka. A lifelong resident of Ansonia, she was employed as a seamstress at the former Valley Dress Shop in both Ansonia and Derby. During WW 2, she served as an Air Raid Warden. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Ansonia and a member of the Derby Senior Center. Jean was an avid gardener and enjoyed making wreaths, pressing flowers, sewing, and crocheting.
She is survived by three sons, Stanley J. Koval (Rosemarie) of Ansonia, John A. Koval (Carolyn) of Oxford, and William A. Koval of FL, a daughter, Joan M. Raslavsky (George) of Ansonia, a sister, Harriet Sokolnicki of Ansonia, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Andrew J. Koval, a grandson, George Raslavsky Jr., a brother, Joseph Sroka, and sisters, Matilda Greski and Mary Sroka.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Monday February 6, 2012, at 9:45am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church in Ansonia. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5 pm. Contributions in Jean’s memory may be made to Office of Radio & Television (Daily TV Mass) or St. Joseph Church in Ansonia through the funeral director.
