Joseph J. Riordan

Joseph J. Riordan, age 88, of Derby, entered into rest in Pittsfield , Mass.
He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred Griffin Riordan. Mr. Riordan was born in Derby on May 10, 1921, son of the late former Mayor of Derby William Riordan, and Mary McGlynn Riordan.
He was a life long resident of Derby until moving to a convalescent home in Pittsfield, Mass., three years ago.
He was a Staff Sergeant for the U.S. Army during World War II. During his military career he received the Purple Heart. Mr. Riordan was a foreman for the machine shop at Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement.
After his retirement, he was a Machine Shop Teacher at Bullard Havens.
Mr. Riordan was a founding father of the Storms Ambulance. He was a volunteer fireman for the Storms Fire Department for over 60 years and was a Chief Driver for several of those years.
Mr. Riordan had a strong Alliance to the City of Derby and the citizens.
He is the loving father of William Riordan and his wife Marianne and Patricia Reineck; loving grandfather of C. David Oates and his girlfriend Deneen Sasko and Eileen Mary Hine and her husband Brian; and great-grandfather of Taylor Grace Hine; uncle of, Walter and Cindy Hazard and their children, Rachel and David and Ellen Riordan Dierna; and he is also survived by several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, William and Edward Riordan, sisters, Helen Riordan, Mary Kearns and Genevieve Munster.
