William J. Stankye

William J. Stankye, age 87, of Shelton entered into rest on March 1, 2013 in Griffin Hospital.

He was the devoted husband of the late Vivienne Thompson Stankye and Betty O’Connor Stankye

He was born in Derby on August 23, 1925, son of the late Joseph and Helen Jupin Stankye and was a resident of Shelton for most of his life.

He was a Navy Veteran of W.W.II serving on a Submarine in the Pacific Theater. He was employed at the former Ansonia Wire and Cable, the former American Chain and Cable, and Shelton School System Maintenance Department retiring in 1988.

Bill was a long time member and Past Captain of Echo Hose Hook and Ladder Company #1 of Shelton, Past Superintendent of Fire Alarms Maintenance for the City of Shelton, Board of Directors of Marco Island Condo Association and the Road Maintenance committee at Aspetuck Village Association.

He enjoyed golf, bowling ,and card games at the firehouse. He was an avid UCONN Women’s Basketball Fan.

He is the beloved father of Karen Stankye of MI and Bonnie Matthews of East Hartford, loving grandfather of Jennifer White and her husband Andrew, loving great grandfather of Benjamin and Camden. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister Lillian Beck.

Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the Riverview Funeral Home 390 River Rd. Shelton.

His funeral will leave the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 AM for a Funeral Service at 11:30 AM in The Church of Good Shepherd, Shelton. Burial will follow with full military honors in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Echo Hose Ambulance, 100 Meadow St. Shelton, CT 06484.
