No Deal Yet In Ansonia Murder Case

ANSONIAA man accused of murdering his wife with an ax while his children were in the home will receive further psychiatric evaluations before entering a plea.

Kamil Zielinski, 30, was originally scheduled to appear in court on Thursday (March 21) to accept or reject a plea deal offered by the state. Under that deal, he would be sentenced to 45 years in prison for the murder of his wife, Grace Zielinska, in the couple’s Root Avenue home in 2021.

However, during his court appearance, prosecutor Margaret Kelly said further psychiatric exams would need to be conducted first.

Judge Kevin Russo accepted the motion to have further exams done. Members of Zielinska’s family were present over Zoom.

Zielinski was arrested after a 911 call led police to discover Grace Zielinska had been severely injured in the couple’s house on Root Avenue on Nov. 9, 2021. Zielinski was standing over his wife’s body when police arrived, according to a police report.

Zielinski was charged with murder and risk of injury to a minor. Grace Zielinska died after being transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Kamil Zielinski and Grace Zielinska had three children, all below the age of six at the time of the murder. The two youngest children were in the house at the time. Kamil was 28 at the time of the murder. Grace was 34.

Zielinski’s new accept-or-reject date is set for May 21.
