Boys & Girls Club Offers Science Mentoring Program

The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has started the Immersion Mentoring Program, a new science-based mentoring program with 40 mentees and 10 mentors as a part of its partnership with Immersion Learning, a division of the Sea Research Foundation, Inc..

In January, the Club was announced as a sub-grantee of a $1 million grant awarded to Sea Research by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to establish the Immersion Mentoring Program within other Clubs in 11 states, including Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.

Ansonia Board of Aldermen Meetings Will Air On Public Access

Comcast Public Access (Channel 10) will begin airing Ansonia Board of Aldermen meetings on Feb. 16, according to Alderman John Marini.

The meetings will be aired every Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m.

Show Raises $2,200 For Strand Renovation Fund

FILEOn Friday, Jan. 13 and Saturday, Jan. 14, “Bucket List of Unbroken Dreams: Erin K. Moffat the Musical,” a live musical, debuted at the Strand Theater in Seymour, CT.

Both nights were completely sold out and the production raised $2,200 for the theater restoration project, and more than $100 in additional donations that were given directly to the theater.

Shelton High School Housing Authority Science Fair Winners Announced

The Shelton High School 13th Annual Science Fair was held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the school’s auxiliary gymnasium.

More than 204 projects, involving 352 students, were submitted.

The fair was organized by Mrs. Mary Clark, Science Department Chairperson, Mrs. Christine McNamara, Mrs. Diane Lucia, Mr. Dan Nazzaro, Mrs. Nisha Pickett, Mr. Michael O’Reilly and Mr. Jerry Kelley.

Oxford Cheerleaders Win Conference Championship

The Oxford High School Cheerleading Team won their first Southwestern Conference Cheer Championship in school history on Saturday, January 28, 2012.

The team finished in first place with a total score of 157 points. Following the competition, cheerleaders conducted a community service project by collecting donations for a local cancer research organization.
