Ansonia Police Investigate Rash Of Commercial Burglaries

Ansonia detectives are investigating an overnight burglary at the Duchess Restaurant on Pershing Drive.

It’s the latest in a series of commercial burglaries in the city, according to information released Friday morning by Lt. Andrew Cota, the department’s spokesman.

The burglaries aren’t smash and grabs. The culprits show a level of sophistication, which includes attempts to disable alarm systems.

The crimes are happening in the early morning hours, often between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Ansonia police are asking that anyone who may have seen anything to contact the Detective Division at 203 – 735-1885. 

Cota reported the following recent break-ins:

09-01-2014 – 1 Riverside Drive – Super Tees. Entry gained and numerous machines damaged and alarm system damaged. Estimated damage approximately $5,000.00

09-03-2014 – 61 Pershing Drive – CT Consignments. Entry gained through glass panel door. No items noticed missing. $500.00 damage to plate glass door.

09-04-2014 – 350 W. Main Street – Subway – Damage to door locks and broken plate glass window. Estimated damage $500.00.

09-05-2014 – 60 Pershing Drive – Duchess Restaurant – Door pried open. Security camera system damaged and at least $1,500.00 in cash taken.

Police do not have a description of a suspect, or suspects.

No injuries have been reported.

Additionally, we are asking that anyone who sees anything suspicious near commercial areas to contact the department at 203 – 735-1885 or 911, if needed,” Cota said in a prepared statement.
