Derby Church Invites Families, Friends For Thanksgiving Meal

During these tough economic times, many families simply cannot afford to celebrate a traditional Thanksgiving meal with the ones they love.

Walnut Hill Community Church, at the corner of Smith and Ninth Streets in Derby is hosting a family-style Thanksgiving Day celebration and is extending an invitation to families in the Valley who otherwise might go without.

We believe there is power in the simple act of Thanksgiving,” said Pastor Walt Mayhew, Walnut Hill’s Derby Campus Pastor. We know many families
want to celebrate together but cannot afford the extra expense, so we decided to host a celebration that entire families can come and be part of together.”

Seating is limited so reservations are required.

To reserve a place for your family and/or extended family in the celebration or for more information, call the church office at 203 – 732-5220 or visit the church website at www.walnuthillcc.org/derby.

The church will provide a free traditional family-style Thanksgiving dinner, including turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, cranberry sauce and pie for desert — all with the day’s football games playing in the background on their 6 foot by 8 foot television screen.

No one will go away hungry,” Mayhew said, and after dessert, we’ll offer some children’s games so the adults can enjoy the game if they want to stay and hangout.”

Doors will open at noon.
