Update: Silver Alert In Derby Canceled

UPDATE: A man who police believe poured gasoline in his residence hoping to start a fire while his family slept has been located.

Dominick Deleon, 21, returned to his residence on Derby Avenue about 8 p.m., according to Derby Police Lt. Justin Stanko. Police were watching the house.

He was detained for a short period after which Storms Ambulance transported him to Griffin Hospital without incident,” Stanko wrote in an email.

Police believe he was suffering from severe mental health problems when he poured a large amount of gasoline in the residence this morning.

The underlying arson remains under investigation and police will be seeking a warrant for Deleon’s arrest once all evidence is collected and processed,” Stanko said in an email 8:30 p.m.

The original Valley Indy report follows:
Derby police are looking for a man with psychiatric problems who allegedly attempted to set fire to his residence with his family asleep inside it early Wednesday.

No injuries were reported.

Dominick Deleon, 21, may be driving a silver 1997 Honda Accord with Connecticut registration AC04822. The front license plate is on the dashboard.

If you see Deleon, call police, and do not approach him.

The numbers are 911 or 203 735 7811.

A Silver alert was sent 10:39 a.m. Wednesday.

Lt. Justin Stanko said the photo in the alert is dated, and that Deleon now has a closely-cropped haircut and no beard.

The Derby fire department was called to 146 New Haven Ave. at 4:41 a.m. on a report of a gasoline spill. The incident eventually turned into an attempted arson investigation.

Deleon is suspected of pouring a large amount of gasoline inside his residence. The state fire marshal’s office is involved in the investigation.

Although Deleon is wanted in connection to an alleged crime, police believe Deleon needs medical attention — hence the Silver Alert.
