Shelton police charged a Bridgeport woman with brandishing a knife while allegedly stealing $800 in goods from Walmart Sunday (Dec. 17).
The woman allegedly fled but was caught with several other suspects after being spotted by a patrol officer on Route 8.
In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Richard Bango said the incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
Bango said 31-year-old Monica Santos, 27-year-old Trisha Donaldson, and 32-year-old Luis Torres went into the Walmart on Bridgeport Avenue.
“The three shoplifted approximately $800 worth of merchandise,” Bango said.
As they left the store, Walmart employees tried to stop them, Bango said.
But Santos “pulled a knife on store employees and the three fled the scene in a green Volkswagen Passat which was occupied by 30 year old Juan Torres and 29 year old Vanessa Torres of Bridgeport,” Bango said.

Bango said the car was spotted on Route 8 south by a Shelton cop who stopped it near exit 10 in Trumbull.
The five suspects were then brought to the police department and arrested, Bango said.
Santos was charged with first-degree robbery, attempted fifth-degree larceny and interfering with an officer and held on a $10,000 bond.
Luis Torres was charged with attempted fifth-degree larceny and was held on a $1,000 bond. He and Santos are scheduled to be arraigned Monday at Superior Court in Derby.
Juan Torres, Vanessa Torres, and Trisha Donaldson were all charged with conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and were released on promises to appear in court Jan. 5 in Derby.
