Shelton Fire Department Calls For Service

The Shelton Fire Department provided the following summary of the fire department’s calls from the past two weeks.

On 10/03/16 at 7:47 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of a natural gas leak at the Birmingham Condo’s at #145 Canal Street. No leak was found by firefighters. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/03/16 at 11:32 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding from the Hilton Garden Inn #25 Old Stratford Road. There was no fire. two engines responded.

On 10/03/16 at 10:10 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #35 September Lane for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One rescue truck responded.

On 10/04/16 at 3:53 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Hilton Garden Inn at #25 Old Stratford Road. There was no fire. Dust from construction caused the alarm. Two engines responded.

On 10/04/16 at 6:35 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #14 Brae Loch Way. There was no fire. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/05/16 at 9:20 am the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Shoreline Veterinary Hospital at #895 Bridgeport Avenue. There was no fire. One engine and one rescue engine truck responded.

On 10/05/16 at 11:38 pm the Huntington Co. #3, Echo Hose Co. #1 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of an odor of something burning in a home at #635 Booth Hill Road. There was no fire. A skunk in the basement caused the odor. Two engines, one rescue pumper and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/06/16 at 10:54 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the area of Huntington Street and Blueberry Lane for a report of smoke in the area. No fire was found after a search of the area. One engine responded.

On 10/16/16 at 6:27 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding at the Hewitt Hospital #45 Maltby Street. There was no fire. no further information was reported. One engine responded.

On 10/06/16 at 7:39 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #96 North Street. No further information was reported. One engine responded.

On 10/07/16 at 7:35 am Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a report of power lines burning on a utility pole in the area of #239 Coram Road. Firefighters responded but found no wires burning, but the area did have a power outage. One engine responded.

On 10/07/16 at 3:45 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to an automatic fire alarm sounding from the Shelton Intermediate School at #675 North Constitution Boulevard. There was no fire. a problem with a roof top hvac unit caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/07/16 at 9:42 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #93 Blueberry Lane. There was no fire. a malfunction with the alarm system was the cause. One engine responded.

On 10/08/16 at 1:06 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at #13 Princess Drive. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking caused the alarm. One engine responded.

On 10/10/16 at 12:04 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to the Ripton Housing Complex at #423 Howe Avenue for a person stuck in an elevator. One engine responded.

On 10/10/16 at 3:06 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a house fire at #42 Sharon Drive. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire in the attic space of the single family home. Firefighters had the fire under control within 20 minutes of arrival but remained on the scene for several hours to conduct overhaul operations. Although Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the attic area, the remainder of the home and its contents sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage. The attic space contents and roof support members also sustained extensive damage. An investigation by the Fire Marshal determined the fire originated in a second floor bathroom and the cause was a malfunction in the bathroom’s ceiling exhaust and lighting fixture. The fire then spread to the attic space before being discovered by the occupants who then fled safely from the home after calling the fire department. One firefighter sustained minor injuries when he fell from an interior attic access stair. Two engines, one rescue truck and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/11/16 at 00:34 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Pine Rock Co. #4 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Brand Direct Company #20 Constitution Boulevard South. There was no fire. one engine responded.

On 10/11/16 at 2:14 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to #61 Geissler Drive for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One rescue truck responded.

On 10/11/16 at 3:34 pm the Huntington Co. #3 responded to the Trumbull Fire Department at #100 Shelton Road to standby while Trumbull FD fought a house fire. One rescue truck responded.

On 10/13/16 at 11:18 am the Huntington Co. #3 responded to #183 Stonehedge Lane for a carbon monoxide detector sounding. One engine responded.

On 10/13/16 at 8:07 pm the Echo Hose Co. #1, Pine Rock Co. #4 and the White Hills Co. #5 responded to a fire alarm sounding at the Helen Devaux Housing Complex at #91 Howe Avenue. There was no fire. Smoke from cooking in one of the units caused the alarm. One engine and one ladder truck responded.

On 10/13/16 at 11:04 pm the White Hills Co. #5 and Echo Hose Co. #1responded to a small brush fire on Leavenworth Road. One engine, one brush truck and one tanker truck responded.

On 10/14/16 at 7:41 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 and the Huntington Co. #3 responded to a motor vehicle accident on route 8 south bound just before exit 11. Arriving firefighters found a vehicle had struck a rock out crop and rolled over trapping the driver and its occupants. Firefighters using extrication tools freed all passengers. One engine and two rescue trucks responded.

On 10/14/16 at 9:00 am the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to assist EMS with a lockout of a home on Grove Street. One rescue truck responded.

On 10/14/16 at 3:38 pm the Huntington Co. #3 and the Echo Hose Co. #1 responded to a brush fire on Bridgeport Avenue near Huntington Street. One engine responded.

On 10/14/16 at 6:42 pm the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the area of Princess Wenonah Drive for a power line arcing. One engine responded.

On 10/17/16 at 8:14 am the White Hills Co. #5 responded to the Town of Monroe to assist at a structure fire on Hillside Lane in that town. One engine responded but was cancelled enroute to the call.
