Veteran Ansonia Police Officer Promoted To Lieutenant

CONTRIBUTEDAnsonia Police Detective Sgt. Patrick Lynch was promoted to lieutenant Thursday during a swearing-in at City Hall.

It was Lynch’s third promotion within the department, having joined 26 years ago as a patrol officer and working his way up through the ranks.

Police Chief Kevin Hale said during a meeting of the city’s Board of Police Commissioners Wednesday that Lynch was the clear top choice out of all the applicants for the position.

Lynch scored a 95 on his written exam for the position — far exceeding other applicants — and also scored the highest during an interview with out-of-area police officials, Hale said.

The police commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Lynch to the lieutenant’s position.

Lynch said he was grateful.

Thank you very much for this opportunity,” he said. I look forward to doing the best job that I can.”

He will take over the department’s patrol division in his new role, with Lt. Wayne Williams taking over supervision of criminal investigations and Lt. Andrew Cota supervising the department’s day-to-day administration, Hale told the police commissioners Wednesday.

The department will hold an exam to fill the detective sergeant’s position vacated by Lynch’s promotion.

The salary for the lieutenant’s position is $97,800.
