Ghosts will be invading downtown Derby this Halloween Eve!

The Valley Arts Council’s 2nd annual “Night Gallery” reception will be held on Friday, Oct. 30th at the Gallery@37 (37 Elizabeth Street) beginning at 6 p.m.

The yearly event, (which went on display Oct. 15th), is an homage to the old Rod Serling TV series of the same name and features fall and Halloween inspired artwork by VAC members and local artists.

Rich DiCarlo, Valley Arts Council President, created the concept during the gallery’s first year in business.

“We thought it would be a great way to celebrate the change of seasons, as well as to celebrate Halloween, and last year’s reception was such a huge success, we decided to make it a yearly event,” DiCarlo said.

DiCarlo and other VAC members were busy recently converting the trendy gallery into a colorful and spooky venue for the 2-week presentation. Autumn and scary/not-so-scary artwork began pouring in almost immediately.

“This show gives our artists the chance to really go wild and have a great time with their artwork”. “You have to see to believe some of the very creative stuff we get for this show and it really is a lot of fun,” DiCarlo said.

The “Night Gallery” can be viewed during regular gallery hours:

Thursdays: 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Fridays: 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Saturdays: 4 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Sundays: 2 p.m. – 6PM

The reception, which is free and open to the public, will be held on:

Friday, Oct. 30

Beginning at 6 p.m. at:

The Gallery@37

37 Elizabeth Street

Derby, CT 06418

Music and refreshments will be on hand and the reception is expected to draw a large crowd.

“We had a fantastic turnout last year and next Friday’s event will also feature images of the “ghost” that supposedly haunts the Sterling Opera House,” DiCarlo said.

The VAC’s next event will take place on Nov. 8 with the second annual “Art of Giving” opening reception and awards ceremony.

The art show, which is in collaboration with the Valley Philanthropy Council, was inspired by the upcoming holiday season and puts special emphasis on giving of oneself.

Leslie Adams, Valley Arts Council Executive Director, said: “We were very excited about last year’s collaboration with the Philanthropy Council and we are looking forward to another successful show this year.”

The “Art of Giving” opening reception will be held on:

Sunday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the awards ceremony taking place at 3 p.m.

The artwork will remain on display until Saturday, Dec. 5.
