A thief or thieves burglarized a restaurant on Ansonia’s Main Street overnight Wednesday, making off with several power tools, according to police.
Cops were called to Koi, an Asian fusion restaurant at 375 Main St., on Thursday in response to a report of a commercial burglary, according to a message sent by police to local businesses alerting them to the theft.
“The burglary occurred in the overnight hours,” police said in the message. “The perpetrator gained entrance through a back door on the East Main Street side. The owner reports several power tools missing.”
The police department’s detective bureau is investigating, police said.
The break-in comes days after a thief or thieves smashed in the front door of Crave, another restaurant on Ansonia’s Main Street, and made off with more than $1,000 from the business’ safe and its surveillance recording equipment.
Police tied that break-in to the burglary of Ozzie’s, a Seymour pizzeria, by virtue of the fact that the cash register from Ozzie’s was found in Crave’s parking lot.

Ansonia police asked business owners to alert employees about the thefts and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
They asked anyone with any information about the break-ins to contact police at 203 – 735-1885.
“Also once again that if you have video surveillance systems please ensure that it is up to date; the media can be easily transferable or downloaded and could be viewed later on without special equipment,” police wrote. “These few steps can greatly aide the Police Department Detectives in the capturing or identifying any possible suspects or lead in order to make an arrest.”
Ansonia police said Derby is experiencing similar crimes, but there was no information Thursday as to which businesses in Derby may have been hit by burglars.
