Ansonia police arrested a man Monday afternoon after they said he assaulted a woman at a Clifton Avenue home and then slashed another man in the neck.

The incident occurred about 2:20 p.m. at 20 Clifton Ave., a multi-family house at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Cook Street.

Cota said police received a couple 911 calls reporting a domestic dispute at the address.

A female was injured in the dispute,” Cota said. We found out there was a male trying to protect the female, or help her from getting assaulted further.”

The man who assaulted the woman then took out some type of sharp object” and slashed the other man in the neck, Cota said.

Cops arrested the alleged slasher.

Cota said at the scene about 3:15 p.m. that officers and detectives were still determining what charges the man, who he declined to identify, would face.

The man whose neck was slashed was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Cota said the man’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The female victim of the initial assault was taken to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport for treatment of a head injury which did not appear serious, Cota said.

Cota said police had not yet determined whether the man taken into custody lived at the address. All of the people inside the home at the time of the assault knew each other, he said.

Cops were still at the scene about 3:30 p.m. interviewing witnesses and looking for the weapon involved in the assault.
