Ansonia Could Name Practice Field After Jack Hunt

NEW HAVEN FOOTBALL FOUNDATIONJack Hunt, a longtime coach of the Ansonia High School football team who died in 2012, could be honored by the city next month with the naming of a practice field in his honor.

The city’s Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend Aldermen name the practice field — at the city’s Nolan Field athletic complex — in Hunt’s honor after a suggestion from Alderman Joseph Jeanette and Mayor David Cassetti, according to minutes of their September meeting.

He served the youth of Ansonia for many, many years and was highly respected throughout the community,” the Recreation Commission’s Chairman, Al Smith, wrote in a letter to the Board of Aldermen.

Naming the practice field after Coach Hunt would be a wonderful tribute to a man that was dedicated to our youth and our programs,” Smith’s letter went on.

Board of Aldermen President Phil Tripp said Tuesday (Sept. 30) he endorses the move and would expect the rest of the Aldermen to as well.

Jack Hunt was very well-known and did a lot for Ansonia youth and obviously for the Ansonia football program,” Tripp said. He’s a gentlemen that we should do something for so people know what he stood for and know that he helped youth in the city of Ansonia and the Valley.”

The Board of Aldermen’s next scheduled meeting is Oct. 14.
