Ansonia Man Charged In Metal Theft

Ansonia police arrested a Hawkins Road man Monday on charges he stole more than $2,000 worth of metal items” from a downtown construction company.

According to a prepared statement from police, cops in the department’s anti-crime unit were working near the Big Y shopping plaza on Main Street when they saw a suspicious male” in the parking lot.

The cops watched the man, who eventually walked across the street and entered the Tice Brothers Construction Company property, police said, but then lost sight of him.

The officers then entered the construction company’s property to see if they could find him.

He was allegedly walking along the flood wall behind the property with his arms full.

They observed the male put the items down on the flood wall and then repeated the process again after walking back to the Tice Brother’s property,” Lt. Andrew Cota said in a prepared statement.

A cop then approached the man, identified as 44-year-old Brian Krasowski, who ran from them and was quickly caught,” Cota said.

They determined he had been taking metal items from a fenced-in area on the property. Police pegged the value of the metal at about $2,100.

Krasowski was charged with third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree larceny, and interfering with an officer. Police said he was released on $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Superior Court in Derby Jan. 20.
