Ansonia —
The bands at Saturday’s Earth Day Celebration at the Ansonia Nature Center were able to rock out thanks to solar power from a van from Solar Jam Productions.
Now that’s keeping it green!
The nature center celebration promoted sustainability as its theme this year.
Donna Lindgren, director of Ansonia Nature Center, said that sustainability means maintaining a healthy Earth that promotes diversity.
“We hope that the spirit of this celebration about the earth, a healthy Earth, will spread beyond our 150 acres to the rest of the population,” Lindgren said.
The vendors at the event promoted eco-friendly products such as a battery powered lawn mower, a plant nursery that grew and sold only flowers and plants native to Connecticut and CT Clean Energy. Also, various artist from the Valley Arts Council displayed nature-themed artwork.
Brittany Thornton, board member of the Valley Arts Council, displayed her nature photographs along with her partner, Joseph Boroski Jr., who displayed a vivid orange painting.
Borski ,who paints wildlife and landscapes, and Thornton, who has an online art gallery consisting of nature photographs, both said they live an eco-friendly lifestyle to save energy.
“If everyone changed their light bulbs to energy saving ones it would make a difference,” Boroski said.
Thornton agreed.
“We changed all of our light bulbs and now we have a ridiculous amount of wattage used,” Thornton said. “It’s like, fifteen bucks.”
