Original post from Wednesday morning below.

Ansonia police do not think an anonymous post that closed schools Tuesday is connected to a series of bomb threats that plagued schools across the U.S. Monday.

City police released a statement Monday afternoon explaining a heavy law enforcement presence was needed Monday because of an anonymous post made on an after-school app.

Police did not say specifically what was posted, but it caused schools to go into lockout mode.”

Meanwhile, USA Today and national media outlets said law enforcement is investigating a number of bomb threats made via robocalls. Click here for more info.

But the Ansonia post was different and does not match what happened Monday elsewhere, Ansonia police Lt. Andrew Cota said Tuesday morning in an e‑mail.

Our case seems to have stemmed from someone being upset about being bullied,” Cota said. There was no mention of a bomb threat in our case.”

The post in Ansonia caused after-school activities to be canceled Monday.

In addition, schools Superintendent Carol Merlone announced late Monday that schools would be closed Tuesday.

A decision about when we will reopen schools will be made in conjunction with law enforcement, and we will be updating our website and Facebook page regularly,” Dr. Merlone added.

The statement concluded, Due to the sensitivity of the subject matter, she said further details cannot be provided at this time and thanked parents and community for remaining supportive and understanding.”

Parents took to social media Monday and Tuesday to complain the district did not share information in a timely manner.
