A former Ansonia Alderman and longtime corporation counsel was charged Tuesday with drunk driving in connection with a July 29 crash.
Kevin Blake, 57, surrendered to police about 4 p.m. Monday after learning police had obtained an arrest warrant, Ansonia Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a prepared statement.
Blake posted a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear Sept. 26 at Superior Court in Derby.
Blake crashed into a parked car on Franklin Street the afternoon of July 29 and was transported to Griffin Hospital.
Police obtained a search warrant for Blake’s medical records, which Lynch said showed that Blake’s blood alcohol content was .22, nearly three times the state’s legal limit for being behind the wheel.
Blake’s arrest comes four days after the Valley Indy published a story detailing the investigation into the crash.
Police initially gave Blake a ticket in connection to the crash because they thought that Blake’s blood hadn’t been tested for alcohol.
They eventually determined that Blake’s blood had been tested.
Police are now conducting an internal investigation into how the probe was handled.
Blake had been nominated by the city’s Democrats to run for Seventh Ward Alderman at their nominating caucus in July but has since dropped his candidacy. He declined to comment on the crash when reached by the Valley Indy last month.
He served as the city’s corporation counsel in the administration of James Della Volpe and has a lengthy record of service in the city’s volunteer fire department.
