Ansonia School Board Honors Teacher Of The Year

Ansonia’s Board of Education honored the city’s teacher of the year at its meeting Wednesday at City Hall.

Superintendent Carol Merlone began the meeting by lauding Yvette Bailey, a reading teacher at the middle school selected as this year’s teacher of the year.

She’s a phenomenal teacher at the middle school, she teaches reading and she does wonderful programs for children,” Merlone said. The kids do outstanding jobs … she’s only interested in the positive things that kids can do.”

The superintendent presented a bouquet of flowers to Bailey Wednesday, joking that a rocking chair would be delivered later.

Bailey thanked the school board, the city and the parents of her students in brief remarks during the meeting.

Your kids are awesome,” Bailey said. Sometimes they’re crazy, I love that about them. That’s the fun part. They keep me going.”
