Brown Water Update, Thursday Afternoon

The Regional Water Authority sent out the following news release at 4:16 p.m. in reference to your brown water:

A water main break on Pershing Drive in Derby yesterday caused water to flow more quickly through a large water main, stirring up naturally occurring minerals in the water. The discoloration is temporary and not harmful.

There are still pockets of discoloration, and Regional Water Authority (RWA) crews are flushing those water mains in a systematic fashion.

The water may have an earthy taste and may stain laundry. Once residents notice the discoloration is getting lighter, the RWA suggests they run a cold water faucet located at the highest point in the house (for example, a second floor bathroom) to clear out internal plumbing.

Residents are asked to please contact the RWA at 203 – 562-4020 if their water has not cleared. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers.
