Police were called to Hickory Lane in Derby this morning after a resident heard his dogs barking and realized someone had just been in his house.

As Derby officers investigated that report, another resident reported that a man was in a backyard on nearby King’s Court.

Ansonia police, already on high alert after some 10 overnight burglaries in the Hilltop section of their city, responded to assist Derby in tracking down the suspect.

A police dog from Milford responded to the scene as well.

The suspect was captured on Sunset Drive.

Detectives in Derby and Ansonia are now working together to see if the 18-year-old man is connected to the recent burglaries and attempted burglaries on Ansonia’s Hilltop.

Derby’s east side has experienced two overnight burglaries in recent weeks as well.

The incident happened the morning after a heavily-attended block watch meeting in Ansonia Tuesday.

This story will be updated as more information is released by police.
