Copper Thieves Target Vacant Homes In Ansonia

Ansonia Police have recently been sent to investigate reports of burglaries where copper piping has been stolen from homes.

Within the past week police have investigated three burglaries that involve the theft of the copper piping inside of the homes.

It appears as is the suspect(s) are locating vacant homes and entering the basements and cutting and removing any exposed copper piping.

The three cases are believed to have been done in the overnight hours.

A fourth burglary was also done on Jan. 3, 2014 where a vacant home on Hall Street was burglarized.

The other three burglaries were on Howard Avenue, Scotland Street and Greenfield Drive.

We are asking residents to keep a close eye on homes that they know may be vacant or have for sale signs on them for any signs of suspicious persons or activity.

If anyone sees anything suspicious they are asked to call Ansonia Police at 203 – 735-1885 or 911 if they observe someone enter a vacant home, especially in the evening hours.

At this time there are no suspects or descriptions of any vehicles.
