Alderman Martin Dempsey
My name is Martin Dempsey and I proudly represent the citizens of Ansonia’s Fourth Ward on the Board of Aldermen. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express why I am seeking election this fall.
I have been a resident of this great city for my entire life and currently live on Rutland Street with my wife of 13 years, Keri, and our 5‑year-old son, Finn. It has been an honor to raise my family in the same community that I grew up in, and I am eager to give all I can back in return.
Growing up in Ansonia, hard work and determination became two of my core values at a very early age. This helped me build the foundation to pursue a successful career in education, leading to my current position as Dean of Students at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull. I received my Bachelor’s degree from Fairfield University and Master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. While I have spent my professional career inside a school building, I also recognize that some of the greatest educational moments of my life, both as a student and teacher, have occurred outside of the classroom in the service of others. As an educator, I have participated in and helped organize numerous service projects and trips for my students. I have also dedicated my time as a tutor, multi-sport official, and coach. Most recently, I received my EMT license in August and plan to volunteer my time in that capacity as well.
When Mayor Cassetti appointed me to the Board of Aldermen last September, I saw it as an opportunity to put my years of professional and volunteer experience to work for Ansonia. To this day I am excited to be part of the dramatic revitalization that our city is undergoing, and look forward to what can be achieved in the years to come. Above all, I want to ensure that Ansonia continues to offer, and improve on, the opportunities to young families that I have benefited from all my life.
Since taking the oath of office, I have worked to provide the citizens of Ansonia with the professional-minded leadership they deserve. I have strived to put the “big picture” of improving Ansonia above the divisive antics that give politics its bad name. To that end, I am proud of my work as chairman of the salary subcommittee of the Board of Aldermen, where I worked collaboratively with my fellow aldermen to craft a proposal to streamline secretarial salaries.
If elected to another term as alderman, I will continue to support the positive new direction that Mayor Cassetti and his team have forged for the city. I will fight to keep taxes as low as possible, aggressively pursue economic development and improve the quality of life for all residents.
