The Derby Board of Aldermen is scheduled to meet 6 p.m. Thursday to appoint a new member.

James Petrino was elected Nov. 7 to represent the Second Ward.

However, he resigned shortly after being sworn-in and is now the commissioner of the Derby Fire Department.

Derby Mayor Rich Dziekan told The Valley Indy earlier this month that the most likely replacements are either Evelyn Browning or Robert Forte.

The decision is ultimately up to the Republican members of the Board of Aldermen. Petrino ran as a Republican. Browning and Forte are two other Republicans who ran for Second Ward Aldermen but came up short.

The other Aldermen representing the Second Ward are Democrats Ron Sill and Joe DiMartino.

Andrew Baklik, Dziekan’s chief of staff, said in an email Monday the Aldermen will likely be discussing subcommittee assignments and blight in the city.

The meeting is classified as a special meeting” because it falls outside the Aldermen’s regular meeting schedule.

The Aldermen, during an organizational meeting earlier this month, voted to change the monthly meetings from the fourth Thursday of each month to the second Thursday of every month.

Charles Sampson is the recently-elected president of the Board of Aldermen. He is a Republican.

The Aldermen usually meet on the second floor of Derby City Hall, 1 Elizabeth St.
